Joining the European Joint Master’s Programme in English and American Studies marked a significant turning point in my academic journey. The program’s flexibility enabled me to customize my learning path, allowing me to immerse myself in a specialized area closely aligned with my scholarly pursuits. Within the program, students have the option to choose from three focus areas: Literature, Linguistics, and my personal favorite, Cultural Studies.
The academic courses offered were more than just courses—they were outstanding, offering a diverse and enriching learning environment. However, what truly sets this program apart is its inclusion of courses designed to refine professional writing and speaking skills. These invaluable skills have become instrumental in my current roles as a Project Manager and Lead of AI & Digital Transformations Living Lab within the Arqus Alliance, as well as a Project Manager at Data_Lab (University of Graz). Effective communication, whether in writing or presentations, has been a cornerstone of my professional success.
Beyond the academic realm, the program’s dedication to creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment played a pivotal role in my personal and academic growth. This international network not only broadened my perspective but also provided a supportive community that enhanced my overall educational journey. Building on the solid foundation laid during my Master’s studies, I have continued my doctoral studies at the University of Graz. My research delves into drag and identity, a fascination sparked during my Master’s studies.
In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend the European Joint Master’s Programme in English and American Studies to interested students. It is not just about receiving an outstanding education; it is about tailoring your learning path and exploring diverse interests. The program has profoundly influenced my academic and professional life, and I am grateful for the enriching experiences and skills it has provided. Joining this program is an investment in a transformative and personally fulfilling educational experience.

I came across the opportunity of enrolling on the Joint Master's Programme through the web. Not least, the fact that I could apply online (from Croatia - while working there to finance my studies) without the need of spending extra money on sending tons of paperwork via post was already a huge asset. It showed that the university relied on an updated system that is equally efficient when issuing the degree.
The fact that the programme offers the opportunity of obtaining a double degree, not only gives you tools to be better positioned in the job market but also widens your perspective regarding academia while expanding your social network. To me, the mobility semester expanded my horizons; coming from South America, where Bachelor programmes rely on a different structure, particularly in the duration of courses and the grading system.
As for the thesis process, my supervisor was always willing to help me out and even added extra office hours in a strive to make my wish of finishing my thesis on time come true, so that I could devote myself to improving my German and finding a job.
During the two years in Graz, not only did I enjoy the wide variety of courses offered (especially in the field of linguistics - my focus area) but profited from the scholarships the International Relations Office offers to study abroad. Hence, I participated in a summer school in Denmark (Aarhus), Czech Republic (Olomouc) and in the GUSEGG Summer School, which offered me the chance of getting published (see Link).
Overall, Graz is a lively city that organizes public events such as for New Year. In the main square Graz, I experienced a marvellous water and fire show, FOR FREE! Graz’s mountains and Buschenschank culture are absolutely worth experiencing! Forging intercultural relations and gaining flexibility by encountering new internationals is what made my stay in Graz an unforgettable experience!
